*Creating the transcripts has been a challenging process, as modern transcription services are not equipped to handle Medieval languages. We have created transcripts for as many of the works as possible by manually working to align text sources with each of the audio tracks. It has been a very labour-intensive process but it has enabled us to offer transcripts for 43 of the 79 works (54%) in the Medieval Literature Aloud collection, including the most commonly studied titles such as Beowulf, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, The Canterbury Tales, Piers Plowman, and Dante’s Inferno. For rights reasons we can only use text sources that are in the public domain, and, importantly, in the original language, as opposed to a more modern translation. We therefore had no plans to add additional transcripts for the remaining works.
